Project Name: Harvard University - Canaday Hall
Location: Cambridge, MA Description: A solar thermal domestic hot water system consisting of 206 flat panels and covering 3200 square feet was installed on the roofs of three buildings without needing to modify the roofs whatsoever. A network of glycol-filled pipes now connects the rooftop solar panels to the new hybrid heating system using the sun's power to heat water for showers, hand-washing, and dish-washing. About 40 percent of the thermal energy provided by the new system will come from the solar panels and the remaining 60 percent will be supplied by the steam tunnel heat recovery. The project will prevent an estimated 166 metric tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere annually. Completion Date: September 2010![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
